Educators In-Service
Dear Healthcare Professional,
ADHD is one of the most prevalent disorders that impacts children. ADHD affects children of all ages and results in significant functional impairment, especially in the classroom. This presents a unique situation for educators, who must handle the needs of the child with ADHD in a classroom setting. Unfortunately, teachers do not always receive comprehensive training related to ADHD and, oftentimes, lack the understanding to know how to properly handle these children. Furthermore, teachers are on the frontline - they spend a significant amount of time with the child in a given day and therefore are often the best informants of ADHD behavior patterns and symptoms. The value of teachers is such that they can properly serve the child via reports to parents, which can ultimately aid the clinician in appropriate ADHD management.
McNeil Pediatrics™, Division of Ortho-McNeil-Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc, is committed to the management and treatment of ADHD. Towards that end, the presentation below (see link) is a tool designed to assist healthcare professionals in educating teachers about ADHD. You can greatly benefit the children in your community through your active involvement with the schools. This presentation can help you inform teachers about the various subtypes of ADHD and suggest tips on how to effectively manage its complexities in a school setting.
McNeil Pediatrics™ hopes that the myths of ADHD will be addressed through ongoing teacher education, one teacher at a time. Through active involvement in your community, you can help overcome the hurdles and challenges often faced by children with ADHD.
